Orange has announced that it will expand its mobile advertising plans across Europe.
The mobile carrier had previously launched a pilot programme to deliver SMS mobile marketing based on user preference and yesterday (February 15th) it announced that it will roll out the service throughout Europe by the end of 2010.
Local advertising will be a major feature of the service, allowing companies to specifically target and engage customers with tailored content, be it competitions, free texts or reviews.
This month it will launch the service in Spain, called Mio, allowing customers to opt-in to the service to receive "relevant and location-based" adverts.
David Fieldhouse, head of Mobile Mediacom, said: "Innovative models like these that allow audience feedback, let campaign planners better understand how their campaigns resonate with consumers.
"Orange's ability to tightly segment audiences will also result in a better consumer experience and deeper engagement with an advertiser's message."

More mobile phone users find Google more useful as an internet provider than regular mobile carriers, according to research by Tellabs.
The survey found that over the next six months, users would find Google as the best internet service on their phones and as many as 63 per cent of users said they would like to see personalised mobile internet.
This would involve tailored profile settings, which could make mobile marketing more specific to the user.
Users responding to the survey still found mobile carriers useful for SMS services, therefore still being an up-to-date method of mobile marketing and premium rate SMS services.
US giant Google released its first mobile phone Nexus One in January 2009, using the operating system Android. It was launched to compete with other providers but according to data by mobile applications analytics company Flurry, the phone was outsold by the Apple iPhone 3GS by 80 times in its launch week.
Google was criticised last week by Mobile magazine for its focus on advertising over providing technologies and apps for Android users.

Dr Hilary was left to perform the skate-off with actor Danny Young before the judges voted him off.
Previously, the doctor had been a favourite with the viewers, although the panel frequently gave him bad scores.
On the judge's decision, he said: "To be honest, I think my time has come this evening. The standard of the competition this year is so very, very high."
Judge Emma Bunton said: "I think you have done wonderful things. But I don't think the competition can really start while you are still here."
Eight skaters remain in the competition, including Boyzone bandmate Mikey Graham, actor Gary Lucy and actress Hayley Tamaddon, who last night won the judges' highest score of 26.

Fourth finalist Robbie White was forced to pull out the day before the final show after dislocating his shoulder during rehearsals.
Previous contestants took his place to partner the other finalists.
Bruce's prize is £10,000 and the opportunity to dance at the US edition of the show in Hollywood later this year.
