Mobile marketing growing in importance A new study has revealed that businesses believe that mobile Marketing is becoming increasingly vital for promotion schemes.

The State of Marketing 2010 study by Unica, conducted with Salloway and Associates, found that over one-third of firms are already using technologies such as SMS messaging in their marketing campaigns.

The report also showed that rich media and social media are also being utilised more to increase sales and are gradually becoming one of the most important platforms for advertising.

Paul McNulty, chief Marketing officer at Unica, said: "2010 is shaping up to be an exciting year for marketers. Unprecedented change, brought on by a volatile economy, the rise of new channels and the increased demand for financial accountability, are creating a new era in Marketing."

The results of the survey support remarks by Google last week, which suggested that mobile Marketing will eventually surpass PC-based Marketing due to the rise in smartphone uptake.
